A Family Day Out…

So, last week Ciaran and I decided we were going to visit a new place every week, a new town or city to explore each week. This obviously sounds like a fantastic idea, until you factor in that actually guys, you’ve got a baby now. So, here’s a few things we’ve learnt since having little Mr O about leaving the house and a bit about our day out in Winchester.

The day began just like any other, up and ready, sort bottles, pack changing bag etc. Then the attempt to actually leave the front door, I came back in the house 3 times whil… just had to pause writing as BABA woke suddenly from his nap apparently being stabbed or something equally horrific, oh wait a minute, nope, he just decided he was a bit peckish, an hour and a half before he’s due for a feed AND he’s just been put up an ounce! Then of course it was butt butt before bot bot and we had a little singing session (me singing the orange is the new black theme tune to him- nasally may I add as I have a cold) so all in all that took a little longer than expected and I kinda lost my train of thought- OH train! I must put that £2 coin in his train moneybox!!

Yes, back to it, I came back in the house 3 times just in the time it took Ciaran to put Oscar in the car! Forgetting multiple things. Now, I don’t want to brag because, and I have said this since day 1, I’m pretty sure we won’t be this lucky forever, we have a really well behaved baba when we’re out. He sleeps most of the time then wakes, looks up at us with his big blue eyes, lets out a whimper to alert us of his hunger, has a bottle and goes back to sleep. So, unfortunately I cannot advise you of how to survive a day out if your child is not a contented little angel. (there I go again bragging, please don’t hold it against me when I’m complaining about my snotty 2 year old) I can however, tell you some of the things we do to survive a day out with baby…

The Changing Bag- We have a Cath Kidston changing bag that comes with a fold away changing mat and bottle warmer. It’s not the BIGGEST of changing bags but it manages to fit our essentials in, including:

  • Nappies + Wipes
  • Nappy Bags
  • Spare Clothes for BABA
  • Spare Clothes for MAMA- I am NOT ready to rock the puke on shoulder trend yet.
  • Hand Sanitiser
  • Bottles
  • Milk Dispenser
  • Lip Balm
  • Sun Cream
  • Bibs + Musy’s

I just need to tell you about this milk dispenser- I’m sure a lot of you have them, I received mine as a gift and I honestly had no idea what it was, as I was planning to breast feed I just left it in a box at home waiting for the day I needed it, but, as the situation is I can’t breastfeed, so formula needs to be stored for us when we go out- ENTER Brother Max Milk Dispenser! This thing is an absolute life saver, you can hold 3 lots of powder in it which means I can make 3 bottles when I’m out and you literally just turn and pour! Which is also great when you need a bottle quick quick chop chop.

One Handed Meals-

We went to Prezzo for lunch in Winchester and I ordered a main course that I could easily eat with one hand, just in case BABA woke up and demanded MAMA’s cuddles, but I managed to get through it, PAPA wasn’t quite so lucky though and ended up eating his dessert one handed!

Pudding

iPhone- If not only for snapping a million pictures and videos purely for the Sleepy Sounds app!

To be honest, that’s about it, as always I’ll have my trusty notebook in my bag with my lists and things I need to remember, from appointments and meetings to shopping lists!

What are your must haves for a day out?
